IFHP President Flemming Borreskov selects the 2012 Facteur D award winner in the category of Planning/Urban Design. The award was given to the successful urban design of the Quartier des Spectacles (QDS), formalizing a network of open theatres surrounding Place des Arts, constituting the cultural heart of Montreal.
IFHP President Flemming Borreskov played an active role in the Facteur D event in Montreal. First and foremost Flemming Borreskov was invited to chair the jury of the Facteur D award in the category of Planning and Urban Design. Also in his capacity of international juror Flemming Borreskov participated in the panel debate on design as a key factor for development.
There is more to design than just solving challenges
”We have to admit that there is more to design than just solving challenges technically and aesteticically . When it comes to urban development and sustainability, design is an important contributor”, says Flemming Borreskov.
Facteur.d is part of the Canadian Mission Design, whose objective is to help companies and organizations to better understand the economic and social benefits of architecture, design and urban planning: the D Factor (the significant effect design has on projects).
We want to reward results
"Mission Design has no interest in handing out yet another design prize for the trendiest projects. What we want is to emphasize is the successful collaboration between business and design; beyond the quality of the design, we want to reward results and the measurable impacts of a project" explains Alain Dufour, Executive Director of Mission Design.
Amongst 47 finalists 7 Facteur D Awards were handed out recognizing not only on design quality, but measuring the economic and social impacts of the projects. In the category of Planning/Urban Design the winning team was The City of Montreal and Daoust Lestage inc. for: Quartier des Spectacles, Secteur Place des Arts.
The collaboration between IFHP and Mission Design is materializing in the IFHP World Congress in 2017 which will be held in Montreal.
